Planting the next load
The time has come to plant the rest of them, the ones still waiting patiently for a spot in the garden. This morning I cleaned out the bigger veggie plot and added a lot of new, fresh compost to the soil, making it a wonderful home 🙂 I also added some water to it so that it can start to “work” until I plant them this evening, I hope my logic makes sense :-p The tomato plants that are in the pots have been moved to the edge. I think this is a great place where they can also act as a wall to prevent weeds from growing there. Some of the potted ones look a bit sad with dried leaves, but the stems on them look fine and there are tiny leaves popping out the top, so they should be fine.
When I took the little tomato plants out of their little crib (so to speak) it just amazed me as to how big they were with such little space for the roots. The whole base was a crazy jumble of roots, so fascinating! There were even a couple that had found each other, entwining their roots together. I made sure to plant them next to each other, so that maybe their roots can touch once again when they’re grown up 🙂
As the garlics are still around, the new tomatoes have been planted in between them, in the same way the garlics had initially been planted in between the tomatoes! Around each plant I made a crater-like form which is for the watering, to keep the water where it’s supposed to be, by the plant. This is the first time I’ve done it like this, lets see how well it works.
While the plants are still small, a simple stick with the stem tied to it is enough to keep them up straight and hopefully prevent the stem from snapping when it’s a bit windy.
