Second layers of branches
As the plants are coming along really well, the first “second layers” of branches have started to grow. These are the ones that need to be taken off to prevent the plant from becoming a bush, and instead to make it grow tall.
This has a few advantages, the main ones being, that the plants can be closer together without growing into each other, and also to make use of the space above them!
As you can see in the first pictures, the little leaves growing inside the bend of the existing branches are the ones we need to pluck. I just did it with my fingers, but another great way is to take a cutter to gently slice them off at the very bottom.
P.S. On a side note, the first little flowers that popped up didn’t make it. I think it was just still too early for them and they dried out. But already there are new ones coming out here and there, so it’s all good 😀
