Fresh tomato plot using ollas
I’ve adopted a bunch of tomato plants! Since I was away during the seed planting season, I was lucky enough to get a few plants that have been planted from seed, just not ours from last year. But hey, a new generation of various types of tomato plants is wonderful!
The big change this time round, is that the planting system I’ll be using, is that of ollas. (Read more about the olla story)
Planting procedure was pretty much the same as with the previous tomatoes, with the difference that these guys & girls are going directly into the veggie plot, without first being in the greenhouse for a bit.
When I got them they were just loose plants, not in any pot or anything. So first I put them into pots with some earth to acclimatise a bit while I was preparing the veggie plot they’d be living in. I had to mix up the soil and mix in some fresh earth with fertiliser, to make it all nice and cosy.
Then, when everything was ready, I first planted the ollas and then the tomato plants around them. (In case your imagination of this isn’t working, you can see it on the pictures below.)
For the first few days, they’ll be having their own sun umbrella, to keep them from getting burnt while they’re still small.
