Initial harvest
Today’s the first day we get to eat home-grown salad, woohoo! As I mentioned before, they should have been harvested already, but hey, better late than never, right? The stems were very thick, full of energy. Also, at the top the flower buds were starting to pop out. Even though this is a Seed2Seed entry, I decided not to go all the way to seed with these guys and prefer to have another batch for that. Reason being, that I think it makes sense to plant them in a better season when they can grow better and also to have a place where they can grow freely, as the place they were is a perfect spot for the tomatoes.
Being so huge and having lots of leaves that had either dried already or partly eaten by insects, about half of the plant was compostified, the other half for eating. After rinsing the nice leaves and preparing 2 big salads, we had a delicious dinner. Home-grown food just tastes so much better! 😀
Lucky for us, there’s still a few plants left to dig up, so there’s be another salad bowl for eating soon.
