Day 20: Unfortunate end
Oh no, the radishes have all disappeared! Yes, sad but true, the radishes didn’t survive, not one of them… There are a few factors that brought this sudden end.
The main one is probably having had them in smaller pots to then replant. As I explained in the previous post where I replanted them, the roots grow very quickly and are very fine. So transplanting them without damaging the roots even just a bit is very difficult. So next time, I will plant them directly into their final growing place and also bury them deeper than I had this time around. This time it must have been around 4cm, next time I’ll risk going up to 10cm, or a bit less. Thing is, the shoots literally “shoot” up and the stems grow extremely quickly and crazy thin. Maybe you can remember the pictures from a post some time ago.
Another factor is not being in season. The radish season is supposed to be around autumn, September / October. So obviously planting them in August isn’t autumn :-p But it was worth the try, and had I planted them in the right spot, I’m sure they would have done fine.
The other important factor are the grasshoppers! Them eating the leaves sure didn’t help! 😀
All in all, I learned a few things here and there and it was interesting and fun (up until the day I saw them… or not…). Since the right season is coming up, I will try again then, so stay tuned!
P.S. Here is the picture of what I saw when I was checking up on them 🙁
