Trying hydroponics with the tomatoes
I came across the term “Hydroponics” today and watched a few YouTube video explaining what it’s all about. It got me quite excited and I wanted to try it out. Remembering the little tomato plants that were still around, being an experiment themselves, I thought I’d try it with them to see if they can recover and carry on growing.
Note that I haven’t used any mineral solution or extra nutrients added to the water, just simple rain water. I understand that adding the minerals and nutrients are essential to hydroponics, but I thought I’d try without them, as the idea of adding extra stuff just didn’t appeal to me. Maybe this will change in the future, when I decide to try something more.
So here’s what I did:
I used a few 6L bottles and cut the top off, reinserting them into the bottle upside down. Then I added the little plants, making them stuck in the opening of the bottle. Then I added some earth on top and pressed it down firmly, hoping that it gives the plant more support. And as a final step I added water until the opening of the bottle was just covered.
Take a look at the pictures to understand it completely, that’s probably the easiest 😉
